This page will document any new laws or policies put through by the Trump Administration and what we can do to resist, circumvent or overturn them:
Don’t Cut Funding For Meals On Wheels: The Trump budget has all kinds of horrors, but one of the lowest is the defunding of Meals on Wheels.
What You Can Do: Call your Congress persons and Senators! This budget hasn’t been voted on yet so public outcry can have an impact here. There is also an online petition you can sign.
Support Planned Parenthood: Planned Parenthood was one of the first targets by the Trump Administration. We probably can’t stop it from being defunded at this point, but you can support them directly, and voice your opposition to the government defunding .
What you can do: You can donate directly to PP here. There’s a petition you can sign here. And keep calling your Senators and Congress reps to let them know you oppose the defunding of PP. Point out that there are actually fewer abortions in areas where proper healthcare, education and contraception are being promoted. These are just some of the services that Planned Parenthood offers. Government money does not actually fund any abortion services anyway so there is no justifiable reason to cut off funding to this important resource.
Stop Trump’s Unqualified Cabinet Picks from Being Confirmed: So far Trump has not put forward one candidate who has been acceptable or even qualified for the positions he appointed them to. Call your Senators and your Congress person, keep the pressure up to demand better choices for these positions.
Here’s a petition against Betsy Devos appointment as Secretary of Education.
Keep Jeff Sessions from becoming Attorney General.
Stop Steven Mnuchin (the Foreclosure King) from becoming Secretary of the Treasury.
Don’t let Exxon/Mobil CEO Rex Tillerson become Secretary of State.
Stop Rick Perry (who wanted to abolish the DoE) from becoming Secretary of Energy.
Keep Scott Pruitt from dismantling the EPA.
Save the National Endowment for the Arts and National Endowment for the Humanities: The Trump team is planning to defund the NEA and privatize PBS. These programs currently make up .004% of the federal budget which is a negligible amount.
What you can do: There is currently a White House petition which needs 100,000 signatures to be considered:
Save the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare): Unfortunately, both the Senate and House have already begun the process of repealing the ACA, however it has not been signed by Trump yet and Republicans have not proposed an alternative plan?
What you can do: Keep calling your Senators and Congress members, keep the pressure up opposing the repeal. The next congressional election is only two years away, if your representative votes to repeal the ACA, work hard to get someone new elected.
Stop H.R.193 – American Sovereignty Restoration Act of 2017: This bill would remove the United States from membership in the United Nations. The UN has played a vita role in world peace over the years, as well as providing humanitarian aid, working to stop international child trafficking, and battling climate change. The US needs to remain an active member of the world community and not withdraw into isolationism.
What you can do: Call Senators and Congress persons now and tell them you oppose H.R. 193 and support US membership in the UN.
Protest the ban on Muslims and Refugees: Even though this ban was enacted by an Executive Order, you can still voice your opposition. As of this writing, a Stay has been granted in Federal Court, but that’s only a pause in the action. The more visible public outcry there is, the better the chances of having this discriminatory law be struck down permanently.
What you can do: There’s a petition you can sign here. Also call your representatives and let them know you are opposed to this discrimination. You can also contact your mayor and governor and let them know you support the Sanctuary City movement.
